Open House in February & Expectations of our politicians

Monday January 27, 2014 at Saint John Toastmasters we had table topics (impromptu speaking practice) on our expectations of our political leaders.  Questions included 'if someone seeking election appeared on your door step asking for a vote, what would you say you expect from him or her,' 'do we expect politicians to display a higher moral standard,' and 'is being in a drunken stupor a good excuse for anything (sadly this is topical in late 2013 and early 2014)'.  People managed their time and answers well.  Quite a lot of passion.

Table topics change from week to week and can be light topics or more meaty topics.  We're not trying to stump members, just giving them opportunities to manage their butterflies and offer a good response and commentary for one to two minutes.

We also had two speeches last night.  One practicing organizational techniques was about a specific family reunion and family reunions in general.  A second practicing the use of visual aids and/or props was about para-gliding.

In February we're having an open house month inviting people in to see and experience what happens at a Toastmasters meeting.  Every Monday 6pm-8pm downstairs in room 002 at St Macs high school on Sydney Street.
